About Eltz Manor

Eltz Manor is a Baroque citadel in Vukovar, Croatia. The 18th-century manor is the region of the Vukovar City Museum. The manor, because it formerly seemed, is depicted at the opposite of the Croatian 20 kuna banknote, issued in 1993 and 2001. The castle became destroyed in 1991 within the Croatian War of Independence. However, after four years of restorations, it became completely restored to its pre-conflict appearance in October 2011. In 1736, Philipp Karl von Eltz-Kempenich, the Archchancellor of the Holy Roman Empire and Prince-Archbishop of Mainz, bought a Vukovar manor in Syrmia, in the eastern Kingdom of Slavonia, then a part of the Habsburg Monarchy dominated with the aid of Emperor Charles VI.

The castle was in the beginning built among 1749 and 1751 by way of the Archchancellor's descendants of the German Catholic noble House of Eltz and was step by step extended over time. The estates near the Military Frontier have been, however, uncovered to raids by means of Ottoman troops and neighborhood Hajduk paramilitary forces.
