The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary additionally known as Varazdin Cathedral It is a Catholic church placed in Varazdin, Croatia. The church is from 1997, the cathedral of the Diocese of Varazdin. Varazdin Cathedral was built in Baroque fashion among 1642 and 1646 by means of the Jesuit order. The bell tower became built in 1676, the sacristy became completed in 1726. After the abolition of the Jesuit order in 1773, the church passes to the Paulines.

Later, the church become secularized in 1788 and converted right into a barn for army purposes. In 1797 he changed into re-consecrated as a church. By the Bull "Clarorum sanctorum" of five July 1997 the Pope John Paul II created the new diocese of Varazdin that converted the church into a cathedral.Pope John Paul II became the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 1978 to 2005. This is the exceptional holy region on this city.
