The city is named for the local Quepo Indians who inhabited the place within the colonial generation. The region became domestic to the native Quepoa humans of this specific Costa Rican location. In 1563, Spanish Catholic conquistadores, led through Juan Vázquez de Coronado, settled the region and based the settlement of San Bernardino de Quepo. The neighborhood native Quepo human beings had been then finally subjugated with the aid of Juan Vazquez and his conquistadores. In 1746, the Quepo people that remained had been transferred to a reservation which already contained every other native ethnic institution.
