Upemba National Park
About Upemba National Park
Upemba National Park is a vast national park in Katanga Province of the south-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, some time ago Zaire. Upemba National Park was first settled in 1939. Similarly as with a significant part of the natural life of the district, in contemporary occasions the recreation centre keeps on being debilitated by the exercises of poachers, contamination, and the exercises of displaced people and civilian army. There are likewise a bunch of towns in the recreation centre. As of late, the recreation centre has gone under impressive assault from poachers and nearby civilian armies. On 28 May 2004, for example, the recreation centre central station in Lusinga went under assault by the Mai volunteer army.
A few superintendents and their families were murdered, the base camp was burned to the ground, and the group of the central superintendent was abducted. The living space of the recreation centre shifts from Afromontane prairies and timberlands at higher elevations in the Kibara Mountains; through Miombo forests and tropical rainforests; to swamps, wetlands, lakes, and streams with riparian zones at the lower heights. It is home to nearly 1,800 unique species, some of them found as late as 2003. Its lower segment is situated in the Upemba Depression, a lavish region of lakes and bogs including the eponymous Lake Upemba, and circumscribed by the Lualaba River. Its higher area is in the dryer Kibara Plateau Mountains.
