Bunia
About Bunia
Baniya is a city in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of Congo and it is the headquarters of the Interim Administration. This was part of the Orientale province until the disintegration of that province. It is located at an altitude of 1275 meters on a plateau about 30 km west of Albert Lake in the Alberton Rift, and the city is located about 25 km east of Italia forest, between Lendu and Hema. In the second Congo War, the city and the district had a lot of fight from this conflict and many civilian scenes, and there were related skirmishes between militia and Uganda-based forces.
Consequently, the city is the base of one of the largest UN peace-keeping forces in Africa, and its headquarters are in the Northeast DRC. The natural resources of the region include gold mines, which militias and foreign forces are fighting on. The main dirt passing through the North and East DR Congo with Kisangani, the main dirt passing through the west and Butambo and the south from Goma passes through the highway, but they are pitiable and especially spoil after the frequent rain.
Bhatia is only 40 km from Uganda. Border is running below Lake Albert, but there is no road link between Toro and Fort Portals in the Great Rift Valley, the closest Uganda cities. Instead, a dirt towards the north-east reaches Arua and Gullu in the north of the highway lake. Prior to making the war route impassable, it was the main trade route between DRC and Uganda, as well as between DRC and Juba in South Sudan, and Bania was an important market city, cross border trade as well as internal trade.
