Xiangtan

Xiangtan is a prefecture-degree town in Hunan province, China. The hometowns of several founding leaders of the Chinese Communist Party, including Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, and Peng Dehuai, are inside the Xiangtan prefecture, in addition to the hometowns of Qing dynasty painter Qi Baishi, student-trendy Zeng Guofan, and tennis participant Peng Shuai. Relics from the Daxi lifestyle suggest that people inhabited the Xiangtan vicinity within the third millennium BC.

Shang Dynasty bronzewares had been discovered inside the place, in addition to tombs from the Warring States length. During the Three Kingdoms Period, the dominion of Eastern Wu built a town within the west of contemporary Xiangtan City and organized the Hengyang Commandery round it. In 749, the Tang Dynasty organized the place as Xiangtan County, targeted at modern Yisu River. By the time of the Northern Song Dynasty, Xiangtan's excellent access to both land and water change routes

It had mounted it as the important business center of the region. Xiangtan prospered at some stage in the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty upon an economic basis of buying and selling in rice and traditional Chinese medicinal substances, and was every now and then referred to as "Little Nanjing" or "Golden Xiangtan". Prior to the Second Opium War, Xiangtan became a primary transfer factor for import and export goods going to and from ports in Canton, Shanghai, and Wuhan, supported by about 200,000 population.
