Shanxi is a region of the People's Republic of China, situated in the North China district. The name Shanxi signifies "West of the Mountains", a reference to the's area west of the Taihang Mountains. Shanxi outskirts Hebei toward the east, Henan toward the south, Shaanxi toward the west, and Inner Mongolia toward the north and is made up for the most part of a level limited halfway by mountain ranges. The capital of the territory is Taiyuan.
Shanxi is situated on a level made up of higher ground toward the east Taihang Mountains and the west and a progression of valleys in the middle through which the Fen River runs. The most elevated pinnacle is Mountin northeastern Shanxi with a height of 3,058 m. The Great Wall of China frames a large portion of the northern fringe with Inner Mongolia. The Zhongtiao Mountains keep running along part of the southern outskirt and separate Shanxi from the east-west piece of the Yellow River.
Mount Hua is toward the southwest. The Yellow River frames the western outskirt of Shanxi with Shaanxi. The Fen and Qin waterways, tributaries of the Yellow River, run north-to-south through the territory, and deplete quite a bit of its zone. The north of the territory is depleted by tributaries of the Hai River, for example, Sanggan and Hutuo streams.
