About Shangchuan Island
Shangchuan Island is the fundamental island of Chuanshan Archipelago on the southern shoreline of Guangdong, China. Its name began from Sao Joao. Administratively, it is a piece of Chuandao, Taishan. Found 14 km from the territory, it is the biggest island in Guangdong, after Hainan Island was cut out of the region in 1988. The region of the island is 139.87 sq.m., and has a populace of 16,320. It is known in history for having been the place of death of St. Francis Xavier. These days, it is a well known visitor site in Guangdong. Shangchuan Island was one of the principal bases built up by the Portuguese off the China drift, amid the 16th century.
They surrendered this base after the Chinese government gave assent for a lasting and authority Portuguese exchange base at Macau in 1557. The Spanish Jesuit minister St. Francis Xavier passed on the island on December 3, 1552, as he was trusting that a ship will take him to territory China. There is a little house of prayer that remembers his demise put, structured by Achille-Antoine Hermitte and finished in 1869. Shangchuan and Xiachuan have been built up as a Tourism Open Integrated Experimental Zone. Feisha Beach Resort is a business visitor resort situated on the island's eastern shore.
