Sanmenxia

Sanmenxia is a prefecture-level city in the west of Henan Province, China. The westernmost prefecture-level city in Henan, Sanmenxia fringes Luoyang toward the east, Nanyang toward the southeast, Shaanxi Province toward the west and Shanxi Province toward the north. The city lies on the south side of the Yellow River at the point where the stream slices through the Loess Plateau on its way toward the North China Plain.

It was home to 2,234,018 occupants at the 2010 evaluation whom 583,869 lived in the developed zone made of Hubin urban region and Pinglu area in Yuncheng, now inside the agglomeration. The city's name in Chinese signifies "The Gorge of Three Gateways" and is gotten from two islands that split the Yellow River into three parts.According to Chinese folklore, Yu the Great utilized a perfect hatchet to cut the mountain edge multiple times, making the Sanmenxia crevasses to avert enormous flooding.

The three "men" or doors were then named "The Gateway of Man" , "The Gateway of Gods" and "The Gateway of Devils". With the development of the Sanmenxia Dam in the late 1950s, the antiquated passes were overflowed. Amid the Western Zhou Dynasty, Sanmenxia was a piece of the domain of the State of Western Guo, governed by relatives of the decision Ji group of Zhou. Guo moved its capital from current Baoji to Shangyang, alongside Sanmenxia. Afterward, this region was attached the State of Jin.
