About Qin Terracotta Army Museum

This is among the most fascinating and most important archaeological find anywhere in the world. And probably the most well preserved too. Situated around a mile from the mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China, Qin Terracotta Army Museum has put on display more than 7000 terracotta soldiers, horses, and war chariots which are believed to have been built during the Qin Dynasty. Its discovery is attributed to few peasants who accidentally came upon some pottery works while digging for a well. The huge area where the statues were found was unearthed slowly and gradually. The museum is accordingly divided into three sections viz Pit No.1, Pit No.2 and Pit No.3. Pit No.1 is the largest of the three and was the first to be unveiled to the public in the year 1979. Pit 2 was the last to be opened in the year 1994. The museum was d a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 1987.
