Old City

The Old City is the territory inside the old walled city of Shanghai; it is a standout amongst the most pleasant zones of the city, with numerous structures in customary Chinese style.

Authoritatively the old city is a piece of Huangpu District, yet it has its own unmistakable character and numerous vacation spots so we treat it in a different article.

The city started as a walled medieval town no less than 1000 years back. The dividers, assembled for the most part for security against Japanese privateers, ringed the city around what are today Remin and Zhonghua Roads.

The dividers have been crushed, yet numerous local people still allude to territories by the names of the city doors - some of these have even turned out to be present day metro stops — Laoximen old West entryway on lines 8 and 10, and Xiaonanmen minimal South door on line 9.
