About Jingdezhen
Jingdezhen is a prefecture-level town, formerly a metropolis, in northeastern Jiangxi province, China, with a total population of 1,554,000, bordering Anhui to the north. It is called the "Porcelain Capital" as it has been generating pottery for 1,700 years. The city has a nicely-documented records that stretches lower back over 2,000 years. During the Han Dynasty, Jingdezhen became referred to as Xinping. Historical statistics show that it was throughout this time that it began to make porcelain.
Xinping then became renamed Changnanzhen at some stage in the Tang Dynasty since it sits at the south bank of the Chang river. In 1004 CE in the course of the North Song Dynasty, it become renamed once more as Jingdezhen, taking the technology name of the emperor for the duration of whose reign its porcelain production first rose to fame.
