About Former British Consulate

Former British Consulate is situated at 53 Po Xijindu Ancient Street confronting Daxi Road and Boxian Road, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, China. In 1864, Britain developed the department on Yuntai Mountain, which had a place with the British Concession in Zhenjiang around then. In 1888, the British Consulate was torched in nearby mobs. From 1889 to 1890, it was reconstructed, involving a territory of 17 sections of land.

Since the British Concession in Zhenjiang was authoritatively come back to the Chinese government in 1929, Britain denied the officers at the department in Zhenjiang, and swung it to the administration. In 1958, the Zhenjiang Museum was set up in the building. As Zhenjiang was a critical sending and exchange center point with an extensive number of travelers in the late nineteenth century, the Former British Consulate in Zhenjiang is of high caliber. Around the mountain are five very much orchestrated structures, including a place of business, boss consular habitation, bad habit consular home, staff quarters and clubs.

Toward the north of the mountain and confronting the Yangtze River is a triplex Municipal Council of the British Concession in Zhenjiang. The style of engineering is the display provincial style, which was very prevalent among Britain's previous settlements in India and Southeast Asia. In November 1996, the Former British Consulate in Zhenjiang was recorded as a Major Site Protected for Its Historical and Cultural Value at the National Level by The State Council of the People's Republic of China.
