About Dafo Temple
The Dafo Temple or Great Buddha Temple is an old Buddhist sanctuary in Zhangye, Gansu, China, striking for its tremendous leaning back Buddha statue of around 1100, which is 35 meters in length. After a reclamation venture in 2005– 06, the Temple presently pulls in a great many guests. It had a few names throughout the century, including the "Kasyapa Buddha Temple", the "Bojue Temple", the "Hongren Temple" , and the "Leaning back Buddha Temple". The present name of "Dafo" signifies "Incredible Buddha".
The sanctuary was worked around the start of the 12th century, amid the Western Xia period. Zhangye was the capital city of the Hugu. In 1028, the Tibeto-Burman speaking Tangut individuals assumed control Ganzhou, and a couple of years after the fact the Western Xia controlled the Hexi Corridor. To reinforce their hold over the territory, the Xia constructed sanctuaries and requested the interpretation of the Buddhist sacred texts.
