About Winkler
Winkler is a small city with a population of 14,311 located in southern Manitoba, Canada surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Stanley. It is one hundred kilometers southwest of Winnipeg. As the biggest city in the Pembina Valley, it fills in as a local center point for business, horticulture and industry. Winkler's history goes back to 1874 when German speaking Mennonites from Russia started settling in the territory.
These first Mennonite tenants were a piece of profoundly religious networks, generally, however did not set up confession booth chapels. The primary authority Mennonite Brethren assemblage was established in Winkler in 1888 because of mission work from the United States. In 1892, Winkler was authoritatively established by Valentine Winkler, a timber business person and legislator who possessed and worked his very own wood business in close-by Morden.
Since Winkler's numerous clients from the Mennonite settlement needed him to manufacture a market in their region, he influenced the Canadian Pacific Railway to fabricate a goad course on the northeastern edge of the settlement where Winkler had been built up. Winkler was joined as a town on May 9, 1906. At that point, the thriving town had turned out to be home to ious German, Jewish and Anglo-Saxon dealers. The Mennonites started moving into the town before long; by World War I, they dwarfed every single other gathering.
