About Waterloo Park

On September 1, 1890 the Village of Waterloo, with the help of the Board of Trade, procured the 65-section of land Jacob Eby ranch to make its first park. Initially named West Side Park, the site contained the Eby farmhouse and plantation that was conspicuously situated on a meadow which slanted south towards Silver Lake. Soon after opening, a show off was raised to suit sorted out exercises at the track, known as the "Oval" and in 1895 more than 10,000 guests delighted in the Canadian Wheelman's Association Championship cycling races.

Different structures were included as the recreation center created, including boat storages and swimming pontoons on Silver Lake, the 1820 log school, a band stand, rural doors and safe house at the mineral spring, and the grass tennis courts in 1900. By 1919 a structure, green house, swimming pool, washroom and toboggan slide had been included. In mid 1920, the Seagram family gave a band shell to the Park in the area of the present Lion's Lagoon. Change houses, situated on either side of the band shell and appended to it, enabled the guest to enter specifically into Silver Lake. In 1901 nationals of Waterloo fund-raised to erect a Victoria Jubilee Gateway at the recreation center passageway on Young Street.
