Uxbridge

Uxbridge is a township in the Regional Municipality of Durham in south-central Ontario, Canada. The principle focus in the township is the namesake network of Uxbridge. Different people group inside the township incorporate Coppins Corners, Goodwood, Leaskdale, Sandford, Siloam, Victoria's Corner, and Zephyr. It was named for Uxbridge, England, a name which was gotten from "Wixan's Bridge". The principal pilgrims in the zone were Quakers who began touching base in 1806 from the Catawissa region of Pennsylvania.

The people group's most seasoned building, the Uxbridge Friends Meeting House, was worked in 1820 and disregards the town from Quaker Hill, a kilometer toward the west. The township was consolidated as a district in 1850 and turned out to be a piece of the recently shaped Ontario County two years after the fact. The main traveler conveying tight measure railroad in North America, the Toronto and Nipissing Railway touched base in Uxbridge in June 1871, and for over 10 years Uxbridge was the central station of the rail line.

In 1872, the Village of Uxbridge was isolated from the Township and consolidated as a different substance. Uxbridge station is the northern end of the York Durham Heritage Railway, which keeps running from Stouffville. The Stouffville line of GO Transit is proposed to be reached out to Uxbridge, yet is at present served by transports to the GO Transit station at Lincolnville.
