About Summerland
Summerland is a town on the west facet of Okanagan Lake within the indoors of British Columbia, Canada. The district is between Peachland to the north and Penticton to the south. The biggest centre inside the location is Kelowna, approximately 50 km to the north, and Vancouver is about 425 km away to the west. The district is well-known for "Bottleneck pressure", a gadget of roads connecting a large variety of wineries.
In 2006, the District of Summerland celebrated its centennial as an included municipality in 1906, yet the records of settlement inside the Summerland location extends beyond that point. Summerland's first population had been the Okanagan Salish with the Nation's barriers extending from Kamloops to southern Washington State. The region referred to as "Nicola Prairie" became considerably named after the Grand Chief Nicola.
A published map of the Okanagan Valley in 1827 includes only three sites for the entire Okanagan Valley; Nicola Prairie; Lone Tree; and Sandy Cove. Summerland's proud and diverse beyond consists of searching and fur buying and selling, ranching, orchards and fruit industries, transportation hubs and extra lately, tourism. Immigration to the Summerland location began within the past due Eighties while the first settlers arrived and began diverting water to irrigate orchards. The first industrial orchard became planted within the Nineties in Trout Creek, wherein a water license become issued to irrigate 1,000 acres.
