About Spirit Catcher
The Spirit Catcher is a sculpture situated on the shore of Kempenfelt Bay in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. It was initially made by stone worker Ron Baird for the Expo 86 in Vancouver. Nine stone workers were approached to submit proposition for Expo 86, and two were been authorized. The model took a half year to shape utilizing COR-TEN steel; this composite builds up a non-destructive oxide and holds its basic respectability. After the finish of the composition, the figure was obtained by the Helen McCrea Peacock Foundation in Toronto for CAD $230,000.
The establishment at that point gave the model to the 'Barrie Gallery Project' as a motivation to make a craftsmanship exhibition in the city of Barrie, Ontario, Canada. The twenty ton, 25 m 70 ft wide by 21 m 65 ft tall figure was transported to Barrie utilizing two flatbed trucks, and was introduced by volunteers and two cranes. It took two days amid the few days of 12 June and 13 June 1987, and was committed on 12 September 1987. The figure has 16 motor plumes, which shake forward and backward when the breeze blows. A while after it was raised on the site in Barrie, the erratic breezes coming inland from Kempenfelt Bay caused worry that the plumes may tumble off.
