About Rawdon
Rawdon is a municipality located on the Ouareau River in southwestern Quebec, Canada, about 60 kilometres north of Montreal. It is the seat for the Regional County Municipality of Matawinie, in the Lanaudiere area. Rawdon is a piece of the Joliette government discretionary locale. The town of Rawdon is a generally French-talking visitor resort and is home to one English state funded school and four French government funded schools and additionally a medium-measure ski resort. Rawdon township was set up in 1799 and named after Sir Francis Rawdon-Hastings, first Marquess of Hastings.
The town of Rawdon was basically home to individuals of Irish foundation up until 1844, when an ever increasing number of French-Canadians settled the area and little shops and ventures developed. Following the First World War and October Revolution, Rawdon saw an impressive number of Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian honorable families land to settle in its farmland. It was initially part of Montcalm County. From 1920 to 1998, there were two separate regions named "Rawdon": the township of Rawdon and the town of Rawdon; in 1998, they were joined into a solitary district.
