Moose Lake
About Moose Lake
Moose Lake is a moderately little lake in North-eastern Alberta, Canada, which depletes north into the Beaver River Canada. It is found only a couple of kilometers west of the town of Bonnyville. It is vague whether the name was given in light of the vast moose populace of the zone or on the grounds that the state of the lake takes after a moose's head - Franchere Bay and Vezeau Bay being the tusks, Bonnyville Beach the jaw, and Island Bay the nose.
Around 1768 William Pink passed the mouth of the Mooselake River. In 1789 Angus Shaw of the North West Company constructed a post on the northwest shore of the lake called Fort Lac L'Orignal or Shaw House. It was on the northwest side on an extensive point southeast of the lake's outlet. The waterway was shallow to the point that kayaks were taken up the stream unfilled and merchandise portaged overland.
It was in great beaver nation and inside simple reach of Fort George 35 miles toward the south on the North Saskat chewan. Wild ox pemmican was conveyed north to the lake and afterward by means of the Beaver River to Lac la-Crosse to sustain the voyageurs on their long adventure to Lake Athabasca. In the 1792-93 season Moose Lake delivered 64 of the 392 aggregate packs of beaver created by the Churchill River Department. In 1798 David Thompson traveler achieved the lake from Fort George.
