About Moira River
The Moira River is a river in Hastings County in eastern Ontario, Canada. It travels from its source in the centre of the county to the county seat Belleville to the Bay of Quinte. Initially named the Sagonaska River by the indigenous people groups of the territory, the waterway was renamed in 1807 by the British pioneer government after Francis Rawdon-Hastings, Earl of Moira. Rawdon-Hastings battled in the American Revolutionary War and had a political profession in England, yet has no association with the site. The name Sagonaska keeps on being utilized in the Belleville territory, as the name of a scaffold over the Moira, and the name of a government funded school.
