About Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte First Nation

The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte are a Mohawk First Nation within Hastings County, Ontario. They control the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, or, in other words Mohawk Indian save on the Bay of Quinte in southeastern Ontario, Canada, east of Belleville and promptly toward the west of Deseronto. They likewise share Glebe Farm 40B and the Six Nations of the Grand River saves with other First Nations. The people group takes its name from a iation spelling of Mohawk pioneer Joseph Brant's customary Mohawk name, Thayendanegea which signifies 'two bits of kindling close to one another'.

Following the American Revolution, the Mohawk, who were partners of the British Crown, lost their conventional countries in the Mohawk Valley of what turned out to be New York state, when they were compelled to surrender their territories following the annihilation of the British. As pay for their faithfulness, the Crown offered them disrupted land in Upper Canada. A gathering of Mohawk driven by John Deseronto chose the Bay of Quinte in light of the fact that it was said to be the origin of Tekanawita, one of the authors of the Iroquois Confederacy in the 12th century. Most of the Mohawk pursued Joseph Brant to the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation in what progressed toward becoming Ontario territory.
