About Mill Lake

Mill Lake is a little lake in the city of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, situated between the Trans-Canada Highway and South Fraser Way. It is the focal point of Mill Lake Park. Factory Lake was initially known as Bais Lake, after a pioneer agriculturist, before being renamed Abbotsford Lake, because of its area. It was renamed Mill Lake as a result of its part in neighborhood ranger service. Around the turn of the nineteenth century, Abbotsford occupant Charles Hill-Tout opened a sawmill on the shores of Mill Lake, and it contributed more than 50,000 railroad connections to the Canadian Pacific Railway.

In 1903, siblings Joe, Richard Arthur, Sam and Bill Trethewey acquired the factory, and in 1912 opened the Abbotsford Timber and Trading Company. This organization quickly ended up one of the most elevated bosses in all of British Columbia, creating 20 million feet of timber sheets every year. The lake was utilized to sort the logs that landed by rail, where they were prepared and sent to principally American markets. The factory stayed dynamic until 1934, when the Great Depression and the consumption of neighborhood woods constrained the siblings to close the site. The Abbotsford Lions Club bought the site, expelled the plant hardware, and started the way toward moving Mill Lake toward a recreation center, getting sand and grass areas for guests.
