About High River
High River is a town inside the Calgary Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada with a populace of 13,584 2016. It is 67.7 kilometers 42.1 mi south of the City of Calgary, at the intersection of Alberta Highways 2 and 23. High River is found around 54 km 34 mi south of downtown Calgary. The people group takes its name from the Highwood River, which moves through the town. The territory was initially possessed generally by the Blackfoot First Nation, who called the site Ispitzee or the "place of high trees along running water".
By 1870, after the entry of the North-West Mounted Police and after Treaty Number 7 had been marked in 1877, pioneers started touching base into the area. High River's improvement focused on a helpful area for individuals, steeds and dairy cattle to cross the Highwood River - an area known as "The Crossing". Advancement of the town was upheld by the fulfillment of the Calgary and Edmonton Railway in 1892. High River fused as a town on December 5, 1901, and was joined as a town on February 12, 1906.
