About Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump
It is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and home of an exhibition hall of Blackfoot culture. Joe Crowshoe Sr. OC 1903 - 1999 – Aapohsoy'yiis Weasel Tail – a formal Elder of the Piikani Nation in southern Alberta, was instrumental in the advancement of the site. He committed his life to protecting Aboriginal culture and advancing the connection amongst Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal individuals.
The Joe Crow Shoe Sr. Hotel is devoted to his memory. Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is a wild ox hop found where the lower regions of the Rocky Mountains start to ascend from the prairie 18 km northwest of Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada on roadway 785. In 1998 was granted the National Aboriginal Achievement Award for "sparing the information and practices of the Blackfoot individuals.
