About Galt Museum and Archives

Galt Museum and Archives is the essential gallery in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, and is the biggest exhibition hall in the region south of Calgary. In 2006, the gallery tended to a developing gathering of more than 20,000 antiques and 300,000 chronicled archives and photos record the historical backdrop of Lethbridge and southern Alberta. It pulls in more than 50,000 guests consistently. A Scientific and Historical Society was framed in Lethbridge in October 1888. Little was improved the situation record documented, and accentuation for the general public laid with the introduction of papers at every other week gatherings.

In 1944, Walter Gurney opened a private exhibition hall—the principal gallery in the city—in the previous Board of Trade building. He gathered a few peculiarities and knick-knacks. In the end, his exhibition hall shut and a significant number of its ancient rarities moved to the private Altamont Museum in Coutts, Alberta. The principal municipal historical center opened in 1964 with George McKillop as guardian. It was situated in three rooms in the previous Bowman Elementary School (now Bowman Arts Center). The historical center rapidly exceeded its space and inside three years had moved into the impressively remodeled previous Galt Hospital. The Sir Alexander Galt Museum and Archives was worked until 1971 by The Lethbridge and District Historical Society.
