About Englehart
Englehart is a town in the Canadian region of Ontario, situated on the Englehart River in the Timiskaming District. The Town of Englehart was made by the working of the T.&NO Railway and named after Chairman Jacob Lewis Englehart. It was joined as the Town of Englehart in January 1908, as a mostly divisional point between North Bay, Ontario and what progressed toward becoming Cochrane, Ontario, where the T and NO Railway met with the new Transcontinental Railway line now the CNR being assembled west from Quebec City over the north toward the Western Provinces, making the town of Cochrane.
In 1905, Jacob Lewis Englehart, conceived 2 Nov 1842 close Cleveland, Ohio, turned into a key figure in the advancement of the railroad north of North Bay in Ontario. A fruitful business from Petrolia nearing the present period of retirement, he was designated in 1905, by the Premier of Ontario, to the Ontario Commission accountable for building and working the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway T&NO, which would, around 1945, turn into the Ontario Northland Railway. He filled in as Chairman of another 3-man Commission from 1906 until the fall of 1919, when he resigned after the United Farmers Organization of Ontario won their sole four-year term in the Province of Ontario. He kicked the bucket at York, now Toronto, in 1921 and was covered at Petrolia.
