About Chapais
Chapais is a network in the Canadian territory of Quebec, situated on Route 113 close Chibougamau in the Jamésie area. It is encompassed by, yet not a piece of, the region of Baie-James. The people group was first settled in 1929, when miner Leo Springer found stores of copper, silver and gold in the region, and was consolidated as a city in 1955. It was named for Thomas Chapais. Opemisca Copper Mines worked the network's mine until 1991. All the more as of late, with the conclusion of the mines the network's essential industry has been ranger service, and the network opened the main cogeneration plant in Quebec to create power from the sawmill's waste issue.
The evening of January 1, 1980, at 1:30 a.m., 48 individuals lost their lives when a fire decimated the Opemiska Community Hall. Fifty others were harmed and raced to Chibougamau doctor's facility. This fire was the most exceedingly bad to happen in Quebec for over 40 years. The fire began in wreaths of dried branches and different Christmas beautifications, and the resulting turmoil that pursued immediately blocked access to the principle entrance. A few people figured out how to escape in time, yet the disaster left profound scars in the community.Chapais had a populace of 1,610 in the Canada 2011 Census. A pit on Mars is named after this network.
