Cataraqui Trail
About Cataraqui Trail
The Cataraqui Trail is a 104-km Rails-to-Trails multi-use linear leisure path in Eastern Ontario, Canada. The route passes by using farmland, woods, lakes, and wetlands. The trail starts southwest of Smiths Falls, at a car parking zone south of Ontario Highway 15 designated as kilometre. Numbered posts are located every 1 to 5 kilometres. In its middle the path crosses the UNESCO Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve. The 78.2 km section walking from Smiths Falls to Harrowsmith is a part of the Trans Canada Trail. The Rideau Canal is crossed on a 1912 railway trestle at Chaffey's Locks, close to kilometre put up 42. The K&P Rail Trail intersects the Cataraqui Trail at Harrowsmith.
Both the primary Rideau Trail and its blue-blazed aspect trails share the Cataraqui Trail proper-of-manner in several places. Trail's cease is reached at Strathcona near Napanee. Access factors and parking masses are dotted along the course. The direction runs along the roadbed of the previous Canadian National Railway. Most of the railbed became donated to the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority by way of CN in 1997. Some sections are privately owned however where get entry to has been granted. Except for emergency and protection motors, and snowmobiles with an Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs permit in winter, motorized tour isn't always accepted.
