About Brockville Railway Tunnel

The Brockville Railway Tunnel is Canada's first railroad burrow. It is situated underneath the city of Brockville, Ontario and goes under the working toward the north, inherent 1863– 64 as the Victoria Hall, yet rebuilt as the Brockville City Hall after 1904. The passage keeps running in a north/south course from Water Street, for a separation of 527 m 1,730 ft. It was worked by the Brockville and Ottawa Railway. Development on the passage started in September 1854, however was not opened for rail movement until December 31, 1860. The passage was intended to give a rail connect from the timber exchange of the Ottawa Valley to the Brockville port offices on the St. Lawrence River transport course.

The Brockville and Ottawa Railway, fused in 1853, kept running from Brockville, through Smiths Falls, to Sand Point, close Arnprior, with a branch line from Smiths Falls to Perth. Its first B&OR prepare left Brockville on January 25, 1859, very nearly two years previously funds allowed fruition of the passage. The Brockville and Ottawa Railway amalgamated in 1878 with the Canada Central Railway, which was invested in 1881 by the Canadian Pacific Railway CPR. The rail line through the passage was later utilized by exceptional tallness abbreviated steam motors, and afterward diesel trains into the mid-1970s. The rails and ties were then sold and evacuated in the 1980s, and the railroad burrow was never again utilized as it was manufactured.
