Belleville

Belleville is a city located at the mouth of the Moira River on the Bay of Quinte in Southern Ontario, Canada, along the Quebec City-Windsor Corridor. It is the seat of Hastings County, yet politically free of it, and is the focal point of the Bay of Quinte Region. Initially the site of an Anishinaabe town in the eighteenth century known as Asukhknosk, the future area of the city was settled by United Empire Loyalists. It was first called Singleton's Creek after an early pioneer, George Singleton, and after that as Meyer's Creek after conspicuous pilgrim and industrialist John Walden Meyers, one of the originators of Belleville who manufactured a sawmill and grist process.

It was renamed Belleville out of appreciation for Lady Arabella Gore in 1816, after a visit to the settlement by Sir Francis Gore and his significant other. Another vital family in the development of Belleville was that of Henry Corby, the author of H. Corby Distillery, who had touched base in 1832. He advanced the district and his child Henry Corby, Jr. given people in general library, built up the recreation center at Massassaga Point, set up the Corby Charitable Fund, helped raise assets to construct the main scaffold over the Bay of Quinte and gave Corby Park.
