Bay of Quinte
About Bay of Quinte
The Bay of Quinte is a long, narrow bay shaped like the letter "Z" on the northern shore of Lake Ontario in the province of Ontario, Canada. It is only west of the leader of the Saint Lawrence River that depletes the Great Lakes into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. It is situated around 200 kilometers east of Toronto and 350 kilometers west of Montreal.
The name "Quinte" is gotten from "Kente", which was the name of an early French Catholic mission situated on the north shore of what is presently Prince Edward County. The Quinte region assumed an indispensable job in bootlegging amid Prohibition in the United States, with extensive volumes of liquor being delivered in the zone, and transported by means of watercraft on the Bay to Lake Ontario at last landing in New York State where it was circulated. Unlawful offers of alcohol represented numerous fortunes in and around Belleville.
