About Barnston Island
Barnston Island is a unincorporated island situated in the Greater Vancouver metropolitan territory of British Columbia, Canada. The vast majority of the island is a piece of the Greater Vancouver Electoral Area A; the rest of Barnston Island Indian Reserve No. 3, which is outside Electoral Area A breaking points and is under the administration of the Katzie First Nation, headquartered over the waterway at their primary hold in Pitt Meadows. Despite the fact that the island is unincorporated and not authoritatively part of any region, street numbers on the island utilize Surrey as the city name.
Situated in the Fraser River amongst Surrey and Pitt Meadows, Barnston Island was named in 1827 for Hudson's Bay Company Clerk George Barnston. The island has no immediate street access to whatever is left of the region. It is gotten to through the Barnston Island Ferry, a short 5-minute ship course from Surrey on 104 Avenue over Parson's Channel; the ship ride is free. Barnston Island's principle street goes along the border of the island. Barnston Island contains for the most part farmland and is home to an aggregate populace of 155 individuals 2001 enumeration, 46 of whom live on the Barnston Island 3 Indian Reserve, situated close to the southeast piece of the island.
