About Acton
Acton is a community located in the town of Halton Hills, in Halton Region, Ontario, Canada. At the northern end of the Region, it is on the external edge of the Greater Toronto Area and is one of two of the essential populace focuses of the Town; the other is Georgetown, Ontario. From 1842 until 1986, the town was a noteworthy place for the tanning and cowhide merchandise industry. In the early years, it was frequently alluded to as "Leathertown". In 1825, the zone currently known as Acton was settled by the Rev. Ezra, Rev. Zenas, and Rufus Adams.
These men were Methodist ministers who took a vacation and started cultivating here on a part of the Credit River. A fourth sibling, Eliphalet, likewise settled here later. In the 1840s, the network had a grist factory and tannery. The people group was at first named Danville when pilgrim Wheeler Green opened a dry-products store in 1828. It was later called Adamsville, after the three unique pioneers. In 1856, the Grand Trunk Railway arrived and helped goad development in the territory, particularly along Mill Street.
By 1869, Acton had organizations that included carpentry plants, tanneries, glove producers and carriage works. It was fused as a town on January 6, 1874. Initially part of Esquesing Township, Acton's foremost exchange was in grain, amble, cordwood, calfskin and jumps. It was consolidated as a town in 1874, and joined as a town in 1950. Another town lobby was opened in 1883 postmaster Robert Swan named the town Acton after the territory of Acton, London in England.
