About Rock-hewn Churches

The Rock-slashed Churches of Ivanovo are a gathering of solid houses of worship, sanctuaries and cloisters cut out of strong shake and totally not quite the same as other religious community edifices in Bulgaria, situated close to the town of Ivanovo, 20 km south of Rousse, on the high rough banks of the Rusenski Lom, 32 m over the waterway.

This noted for its wonderful and very much saved medieval frescoes. The houses of worship are inside Rusenski Lom Nature Park and collapse the locale had been possessed by priests from the 1220s, when it was established by the future Patriarch of Bulgaria Joachim I, to the seventeenth century, where they slashed cells, places of worship and churches out of strong shake.

At the pinnacle of the religious community complex, the quantity of holy places was around 40, while alternate premises were around 300, a large portion of which are not safeguarded today.
