About Sao Jose da Tapera
Sao Jose da Tapera is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Alagoas. It is 240 km from the capital Maceio. It has approximately 65 sites and 5 villages. Its estimated population in 2015 was 32 271 inhabitants. The colonization of Sao Jose da Tapera was started in 1900, at the farm where the city is located today. It was an agricultural estate belonging to the Maciano family. Next to the farm was Antonio Francisco Alves, known as Antonio Marrua. Years later, from Pao de Acucar, he arrived in Afonso Soares Vieira region, setting up a trading house there. Some time later, a fair of great acceptance was created by the neighbors.
The initiative made the presence of farmers in other municipalities aware of the fertility of local lands, encouraging them to install properties in the new nucleus that was there. Then began to proliferate houses of mud. Next, a chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph was built. They took advantage of the existence of the simple buildings, baptizing the place with the name of Sao Jose da tapera. It was elevated to the category of municipality with the denomination of Sao Jose da Tapera, by the state law 2084, of 24-12-1957, dismembered of Pao de Acucar. Headquarters in the old district of Sao Jose da Tapera.
