Obidos

Obidos is a municipality in Para, Brazil positioned at the narrowest and swiftest part of the Amazon River. It's an old town based in 1697, and located among Santarem and Oriximina. The town is the seat of the Diocese of Obidos. The town become named after Obidos, Portugal. Obidos became the scene of the sinking of Sobral Santos II in September 1981, one of the worst maritime tragedies within the history of the Amazon River.

The riverboat was making its weekly trip among Santarem and Manaus and become claimed to be overcrowded while it sank in Obidos harbour.
