Maringa

Maringa is a municipality in southern Brazil founded on 10 May 1947 as a planned urban area. It is the third biggest metropolis in the kingdom of Parana, with 385,753 population within the town right, and 764,906 in the metropolitan place IBGE 2013. Located in northwestern Parana, and crossed by way of the Tropic of Capricorn, it is a regional centre for trade, services, agro-industries, and universities, along with the State University of Maringa. The region's fertile land endorsed Sao Paulo colonists to transport in and accumulate new regions for manufacturing of coffee beans, an important product for exportation. The northern area of Parana encloses nearly 100,000 km².

It is watered by means of the Rivers Paranapanema, Parana, Ivai and Piquiri.
