About Leme
It is an upper-working class neighborhood in the South Zone of the City of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by Copacabana, Urca and Botafogo. The area takes its name from a close-by shake development whose shape takes after the rudder of a ship. In 1975 was manufactured one of the tallest structures in the Leme shoreline; the inn Le Méridien.
Le Méridien shut in 2007 and was sold in 2009 to Windsor Hotels for around R$170 million. After a repair, it was revived in January 2011 as the Windsor Atlantica Hotel. Every year in the days paving the way to New Year's on December 31 the customary parades regarding Yemaja start here. The renowned party of Réveillon or New Year's Eve in Copacabana expands totally into Leme also.
