Itamaraju

Itamaraju is a municipality within the country of Bahia within the North-East area of Brazil. "Itamaraju" is a word from the Tupi language meaning "rock of the bushes of Jucurucu" from the terms ita rock, mara, woods, and ju, first syllable of the Jucurucu River.The Jucurucu River is a river of Bahia and Minas Gerais states in eastern Brazil. On 22 April 1500 a Portuguese fleet under the command of the explorer Pedro Alvares Cabral, seen by way of many as the first European to reach in Brazil, recorded their sighting of Monte Pascoal which became a European settlement and, finally, the municipality of Prado.

Prado is a municipality within the country of Bahia inside the North-East area of Brazil. The municipality carries the 22,694 hectares Descobrimento National Park, a conservation unit created in 1999. It additionally carries part of the Corumbau Marine Extractive Reserve, a covered offshore fishing area of 89,597 hectares.Itamaraju have become and until 1961 remained a chunk of the territory of Prado. On 5 October 1961 Itamaraju officially obtained municipal autonomy, its separation from Prado led by means of Jose Gomes de Almeida and Antonio Fontes Mascarenhas.
