Church of Saint Francis of Assisi
About Church of Saint Francis of Assisi
The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi is a congregation in Pampulha area of Belo Horizonte, in the province of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. It was planned by the Brazilian draftsman Oscar Niemeyer in the natural present day style. It is the primary recorded current building landmark in Brazil and comprises of four undulating solid parabolas with open air mosaics. The particular scene of the congregation is crafted by Roberto Burle Marx, a long-term Niemeyer teammate. The congregation was disputable from the earliest starting point.
The chairman of Belo Horizonte, Juscelino Kubitschek, was the benefactor of the task. Niemeyer said that he was propelled by the French Poet Paul Claudel's announcement: "A congregation is God's overhang on earth," yet Time Magazine composed that the Archbishop of Belo Horizonte, Antonio dos Santos Cabral, considered it to be "the fallen angel's reinforced hideout." Despite its finish in 1943 and Kubitschek's require its sanctification, it was not blessed until 1959; Archbishop Cabral restricted the two its engineering and aesthetic structures, especially the wall painting of St. Francis behind the holy place painted by Candido Portinari. He broadcasted the congregation "unfit for religious purposes." You can come here with your family and friends and enjoy this place.
