Catu is a metropolis in Bahia, Brazil. Its populace is 48648 as of 2007. Catu is a wealthy city, with a prominent petroleum and industrial area, each of which are similarly well advanced. It is thought for its irregular topography and is located at the BR-a hundred and ten between Salvador and Alagoinhas, about 78 km from the former and 32 km from the latter. These early inhabitants moved inland to the sertao, so that you can break out Portuguese persecution.
Up to 1782 historic statistics are few and obscure. The vicinity wherein the city of Catu turned into built on is known to have included the captaincy of the rely da Ponte, whereto many colonists migrated. It was left to the Catholic Church to take the primary steps closer to the foundation of the parish of Santa do Catu, enclosing the substantial territory. In 1787, the then 12th Archbishop of Bahia, Dom Antoonio Correia, based the parish. Nearly 1/2 a century later, on July 23, 1830, priest Joao Nepomuceno Moreira de Pinho, the vicars of Santana do Catu and of Alagoinhas met to put off the boundaries of their parishes and came to an agreement. The new divisions had been identified on June 26, 1863 by the president of the Province, Dr. Jose Bonifacio Basconcelos de Azambuja.
