Bolivia is a popular destination for climbers and offers a variety of climbs to suit every skill level and budget. With over 1000 summits above 5000 meters it is considered by many climbers to be one of the best mountain climbing destinations in the world. In addition to its other attractions and fascinating culture climbing in Bolivia is often considerably cheaper than other popular mountaineering destinations.

You can climb the Cordillera Real with its ice-capped peaks, condors and hawks. Here, you might even catch a glimpse of South Americas only bear species. It has six peaks above 6000 metersand many more over 5000 meters. Climbing excursions complete with mules, porters and guides can also be booked in a village called Sorata. In the Cordillera Real, the three great peaks are Pequeno Alpamayo, Huayna Potosi and Illimani. You can also summit the the highest peak in Bolivia, Sajama.

The most climbed mountain in Bolivia is the 6088 meter Huayna Potosi as it has an easy route that is suitable for beginners and requires no previous experience. It is a great chance for someone without experience to try mountain climbing. Bolivia has one climbing season: May through September. During May and June the snow conditions are better. June has the best and most stable weather. Some routes can become icy after June making climbing harder and more demanding.
