About Chimi Lhakhang Temple

Chimi Lhakhang, otherwise called Chime Lhakhang or Monastery or sanctuary, is a Buddhist religious community in Punakha District, Bhutan. Situated close Lobesa, it remains on a round hillock and was worked in 1499 by the fourteenth Drukpa hierarch, Ngawang Choegyel, after the site was honored by the "Awesome Madman" the free thinker holy person Drukpa Kunley 1455– 1529 who manufactured a chorten on the site.
In establishing the site it is said that Lama Kunley curbed an evil presence of Dochu La with his "enchantment thunderbolt of intelligence" and caught it in a stone at the area near where the chorten now stands. He was known as the "Frantic Saint" or "Celestial Madman" for his unconventional methods for showing Buddhism by singing, humor and crazy conduct, which added up to being peculiar, stunning and with sexual hints.
