About Thuin
Thuin is a Walloon municipality located in the Belgian province of Hainaut. The Thuin municipality includes the old communes of Leers-et-Fosteau, Biesme-sous-Thuin, Ragnies, Biercee, Gozee, Donstiennes, and Thuillies. This vicinity became already used as a burial vicinity in Gallo-Roman instances, around the second and 3rd century.
The earliest name of the agreement, Thudinium Castellum, relating to a Roman fortification, is found on a 9th-century providing in Lobbes Abbey, which lists diverse neighbouring cities and related tithe obligations. The village turned into a ownership of the abbey of Lobbes and, collectively with the abbey, have become part of the Bishopric of Liege in 888. The neighbouring Aulne Abbey, apparently founded inside the 7th century via Landelin, a repentant robber, turned into also made part of the Bishopric of Liege. A century later, Prince-Bishop Notger had a protective wall built in Thuin, which then became the westernmost of the 23 bonnes villes of the bishopric.
