About Soleilmont Abbey
Soleilmont Abbey situated within the forest and commune of Fleurus, at Gilly near Charleroi, Belgium, founded, according to way of life, within the 11th century, which became Cistercian in 1237. The nuns have been expelled on account of the French Revolution in 1796, but soon re-hooked up themselves in 1802.
The network have become Bernardine in 1837, and Trappist in 1919. According to the foundation lifestyle, of which there may be no affirmation, Soleilmont Abbey was based in 1088 by using Albert III, Count of Namur, and the earliest network supposedly consisted of women whose husbands had joined Godfrey of Bouillon at the First Crusade. It was likely founded as a Benedictine monastery, but the girls might surely have lived as secular canonesses and thus been loose to renew their married lives, upon the safe return in their husbands. The first recorded reference to a spiritual house right here, however, is in a charter of 1185.
