The site has been occupied because the Merovingian duration, and there may be evidence that there has been already a chapel here in the 10th century. In 1070, a set of Benedictine priests from Calabria settled right here, on the invitation of Arnould, Count of Chiny, and began creation of a church and a monastery, however after some forty years, probably because of the dying of Count Arnould, they moved away again.

Around 1252, the monastery turned into destroyed by way of a fire; the rebuilding took round one hundred years.
