About Museum aan de Stroom
The Museum aan de Stroom is a museum placed along the river Scheldt inside the Eilandje district of Antwerp, Belgium. It opened in May 2011 and is the biggest museum in Antwerp. In 1998 the Antwerp town council decided to build the museum at the Hanzestedenplaats. On 14 September 2006 the first brick of the constructing became laid. In 2010 museum items arrived from numerous different museums just like the Ethnographic Museum and the Maritime Museum, which each ceased to exist. The museum opened for the general public on 17 May 2011. The imperative focus of the MAS is Antwerp and its connection to the arena.
The MAS collection degrees from maritime gadgets which file worldwide change and delivery, to the history, art and way of life of the port town of Antwerp and to art and way of life from Europe, Africa, America, Asia and Oceania. The MAS develops thematic exhibitions which join local and global tradition, art and records. The museum is committed to informing the public the use of new media and immersive displays. The museum become internationally awarded for its MAS IN YOUNG HANDS initiative, which includes youngsters from very diverse backgrounds as occasion organizers and curators.
