Fort de Marchovelette
About Fort de Marchovelette
The Fort de Marchovelette is one among nine forts constructed as part of the fortifications of Namur inside the overdue nineteenth century in Belgium. It turned into built between 1888 and 1892 according to the plans of General Henri Alexis Brialmont. Contrasting with the French forts constructed within the equal era by way of Raymond Adolphe Sere de Rivieres, the citadel became constructed exclusively of unreinforced concrete, a new cloth, rather than masonry. In 1914 the citadel changed into closely bombarded via German artillery within the Battle of Namur. The Fort de Marchovelette is placed approximately 6.8 kilometres northeast of the center of Namur at the intersection of 3 villages
Marchovelette, Champion and Bonnine. The citadel paperwork a triangle in plan. A 6-metre deep by means of 8 metre ditch encircles the fortress. The ditches have been defended in enfilade by 57mm weapons in casemates such as counterscarp batteries, firing at shot traps at the opposite stop of the trench. The predominant armament became concentrated in the relevant massif, carefully grouped in a stable mass of concrete.
